The first press of the REC button puts the recorder in the standby mode but does not record. You must press the REC button a second time to start the actual recording.

When the recorder is in the standby mode or is paused, the light around the REC button blinks. In the standby mode, the microphones are active and the LCD displays readouts so that the sound levels can be adjusted. (Use the level meters for the left and right audio channels.)

Pressing the REC button while recording will pause the recording. When paused, pressing the REC button again will resume recording. Pressing the STOP button will stop the recording and close the file.
