Support Update for Philips SpeechMike Users Running OS X Mavericks v10.9

Using OS X 10.9 with Dragon® Dictate Medical for Mac® v3

Wondering what’s going on with your Philips® SpeechMike? Having any issues getting the buttons to respond like they used to?

We did some extensive research and discovered that the SpeechMike III and SpeechMike Premium, while still compatible with Dragon Dictate for Mac and Dragon Dictate Medical for Mac, are limited in their operability when running Mac OS X Mavericks 10.9 and higher.

This means that the microphones will continue to operate as microphones — and brilliantly at that. Unfortunately, the latest version of the Philips SpeechControl software, also known as the Philips Device Control Center v3.0, does not play well with OS X Mavericks.  Philips Speech Processing Solutions is aware of the issue and currently developing SpeechControl Version v3.1, which will fully support OS X Mavericks 10.9+.  The release of this update is slated for the end of March 2014.

Until then:

  • We recommend uninstalling Philips Speech Control for now and simply using the SpeechMike as an excellent dictation and voice control microphone. See below for uninstall instructions*.
  • On the off chance that you haven’t upgraded to Mavericks, OS X 10.7 or 10.8 users should have no problems with the current version of Philips SpeechControl.

Of course, we will let you know just as soon as Philips Speech Processing Solutions releases the updated version of SpeechControl that supports OS X Mavericks. In the meantime, if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask us.

*How to uninstall Philips SpeechControl: It’s quite simple. Click the Finder menu icon on the dock; choose Applications; find the Philips SpeechControl application icon; drag it into the trash, located on the dock.
